Shirley Nanette, Vince Frates, and Bill Athens recorded June 27, 2009 at Wilfs Restaurant.

This interpretation of the Carpenters' "Close to You" is going to reinvent this song for you. Shirley has never been in better form. This is a powerful performance preceded by a message about and to Michael Jackson and his family. There are more videos of Shirley this night at the You Tube Channel linked in this video.

Recorded at Wilfs Restaurant June 27, 2009. Wilf's @ Union Station. Portland Oregon, USA. Shirley Nanette Vocals (www.shirleynanette.com). Vince Frates Piano, Bill Athens Bass. They turn everything they do into a fresh interpretation.

Shirley Nanette, Tony Pacini, Ed Bennet, Mel Brown, Oregon Art Beat Equals Music

Well we, the audience and singer Shirley Nanette, and drummer Mel Brown, and bassist Ed Bennett and Pianist Tony Pacini and OPB's Oregon Art Beat had very good night indeed at Jimmy Maks in Portland.

The creative juices were flowing and the music reflected some original work this night. Many songs and so little tape. We can all look forward to the story that will air on "Oregon Art Beat" in the coming months.

There was a duet with Tony Pacini and one with Ed Bennett in which Shirley works without a microphone while some adjustments are being made. It would be remarkable for the sheer force of singing strength alone, but it is also creative work by Shirley and Ed.

Oregon Art Beat videographers were capturing the action and this recording will comprise a component in the segment to be broadcast on the program in future months. They also visited a performance at Augustana Lutheran Church.

Here's a list of what came from the show on November 26, 2008:

"It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)"
"Almost Like Being In Love"
"More Than You Know"
"Cheek To Cheek"

Here's "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)"
A higher quality version is available at You Tube's site (look for the words under the right of the video window). Videographer, Greg Bond, with Oregon Art Beat is holding the real camera in the embedded video on this page.
